Ten of us enjoyed beautiful weather and beautiful wild flowers on this trip!  Aside from the beautiful pebbles, we observed many varieties of flowers:  Desert Sand Verbena, very deep blue Scalloped Phacelia, Esteve’s Pincushion, Birdcage Evening Primrose, Desert Marigold, Desert Chicory, Desert Sunflowers, Brittlebush(Encelia), and others I can’t name!

In our four 4X4 vehicles, we were easily able to traverse the very sandy road that had been washed out during a bad storm last fall.  We located a nice pebbled group of hills that looked like it had not been disturbed for quite some time by other rock hounds.  Colorful agates, jaspers, petrified wood and other fossils were found.  Many nice fossils were collected for our Educational Rock Sample Bag

When the afternoon began to get warm, we all decided to go down to Palo Verde and visit Kinney’s Rock Shop where there is a big collection of material from the local area.  On both sides of the Colorado River, good sized petrified logs have been found and are for sale here.  There are other varieties of material available also, what you’d find at any rock shop.

Some of us stopped at Chiriaco Summit for refreshments, and some just went straight home.  It was a very busy day and we were all tired, but very happy with the treasures we found this day.
