Catlin's Presentation

posted Oct 26, 2011, 11:37 AM by ShadowMountain Gem&MineralSociety

We had a great time on October 21, 2011

Sometimes being OLD in age has its advantages--we are Great Grandparents to two delightful boys in Mrs. Linda Grimm’s 2nd grade class at Desert Chapel Christian School in Palm Springs.

During the month of October, Mrs. Grimm’s class studied rocks and minerals, and fossils.  We were privileged to be asked to give them a presentation, because we are “Rockhounds” and have a lot of the material and some first hand knowledge of the items being studied.  The teacher and the children were very attentive, and all of them seemed very happy to have us there.  At the close of our program we gave each student, and the teacher, a small chalcedony nodule from the Chuckwalla area, and a little piece of petrified wood  from the Anza-Borrego desert.

We also gave Mrs. Grimm enough flyers from the Shadow Mountain Gem and Mineral Society so that she could send them home to the parents.

It is our sincere hope that we have planted some seeds that will sprout and bear fruit in the form of future rockhounds!
